perseverance n. steady persistence in adhering to a course of action, a belief, or a purpose; steadfastness 毅力；坚持
Great works are performed, not by strength, but perseverance.

quit vt. to give up; abandon 放弃
He has not quit smoking, but is holding down to three cigarettes a day.
