中岳嵩山由太室山(海拨1494米)和少室山(海拨1512米)等组成。地处古都汴、洛之间，自古为文人荟萃之地，拥有大量名胜古迹，如始建于北魏的少林寺，规模宏大的中岳庙，我国四大书院之一的嵩阳书院和院内的两株“将军柏”，以及我国现存最古的嵩岳寺塔，太室，少室、启母三汉阙和古天文观测台等。2007年8月17日，嵩山少林风景区入选首批国家5A级景区。

The Central Mountain, the Songshan Mountain is composed of the Taishi Mountain (at an altitude of 1,494 meters) and Shaoshi Mountain (at an altitude of 1,512 meters). Located between the ancient capitals of Bianliang and Luoyang, it has long been the gathering place for a constellation of scholars and boasts a large number of places of interest including; the Shaolin Temple first built in the Northern Wei Dynasty, the magnificent Zhongyue Temple, Songyang Academy (one of the four major academies in China) and the two “General cedars” in the academy, as well as the pagoda and three Han palaces including Taishi , Shaoshi and Qimu, the most ancient surviving buildings, as well as the ancient astronomical observatory.
