The Wild Field
The Wild Field, one of the four major classic plays in China, is representative master work authored in 1937 by modern Chinese playwright Cao Yu (1910-1996). The play reflects the story of revenge among some rural households in China during the tangled warfare among the warlords in the early 20th century. Featured by strict structure, vivid characters and a strong aesthetic effects of tragedy, the work adopts some surreal methods to express the exploration of the mental world of the characters.
